Xbox guy reacts to the PlayStation 2021 showcase.
I check out the PlayStation news every now and then, and oooh boy, the latest PlayStation showcase was really surprising, and we are going to talk about the most important announcements of the event, as well as two third party announcements!

No better way to start this video than the opening announcement of the PlayStation showcase: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake. Just the fact of seeing the Lucasfilm Games logo got me interested, but dude, when I saw the title I was blown away! If you are not familiar with KOTOR, the original game is a story driven RPG made by OG BioWare – very well regarded by its loyal fan base. This style of game is what enabled the studio to then create the Mass Effect trilogy, another incredible success which I played only recently... aaand basically Mass Effect is the reason why I'm interested in this remake, because I never played the original. I really hope the narrative remains unchanged, so I can experience what the original game intended to deliver with the conveniences of a modern video game engine and visuals.

Next up let's talk about God of War Ragnarok! So, this one looks like a very very well made single player game, you've got great visuals, what looks to be a great combat design, a cool setting, and an interesting narrative. I do in fact have in my abysmal backlog all the God of War series, and as much as there are some people who say that it's not worth to play old games anymore I've seen for myself that playing a whole series can only enhance the experience given by the latest titles.

This one actually got me off guard because last time I saw it I wasn't very interested. Forspoken is an action open world game, and based off of the elemental attacks seen in the trailer I think it will have some sort of RPG progression. This water move alone that traps the enemies has me very optimistic about the combat mechanics, very cool. The game looks very gorgeous, but beyond that the detail that really got me was the rendering distance which looks quite insane.

When I saw Avengers Endgame in 2019 my wildest dreams about the Marvel universe were completely fulfilled and I kinda fell off of the entire superhero environment, but I still consider myself a great fan of Spider-Man. In fact I was very very happy to see the boys facing against Venom in the trailer for Marvel Spider-Man 2! Insomniac is a very well regarded veteran studio with which I actually go back up to my childhood when I played a lot of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, so I'm very happy to see they are making great games like these, but on top of Spider-Man, I was pretty shocked about the Wolverine announcement! The trailer itself was already pointing to Logan being the protagonist of this new game even before he showed off his claws, I mean, it really reminded me about one of the first scenes of the first X-Men movie – but I freaked out when the trailer ended, Sony is really capitalizing on their partnership with Marvel, and I'm very happy about it because there will be a lot more superhero games soon.

On the topic of Marvel a game that is looking pretty intriguing that I've already covered a few times is the new Guardians of the Galaxy from Square Enix. Differently from Marvel's Avengers it's going to strictly be a single player game, and although I may sound like a broken record I really really think they nailed the tone and style of the Guardians, really just look at the trailer, it's awesome! Looking forward to this very much.

On a very very negative note, I'm kinda tired of games being re-released as many times as GTA 5... I think the GTA community is more than ready for a new story, new characters, a new city, a new experience! So, to be blunt, I hope this release won't sell good, like, at all. A total flop would be ideal.
Now, with all of this being said, PlayStation really had a great show and I will happily add the games I talked about before GTA in my backlog, but since I can't get a PS5 just yet, I will entertain myself with my current systems as I still have a lot to play on PlayStation 2, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X. I really think that gamers will soon have a good time with everything that is launching in the next couple of years: the KOTOR remake, Halo Infinite, Metroid Dread, God of War Ragnarok, the new Forza Motorsport, the new Zelda, Forspoken, Starfield, Pokémon Legends, Spider-Man 2, Fable, Wolverine, Avowed and Guardians of the Galaxy... insane times ahead indeed.
