XCOM 2 Linux Benchmark and Technical Port Review on Ubuntu
339In this video, I take a more thorough look at the Linux port of XCOM 2 from a technical and performance aspect.

I used the following Nvidia drivers throughout this video, unless specified otherwise:
Ubuntu with 358.16
Windows with 361.43
On Windows, it is set to High Performance. On Ubuntu, cpufreq is also set to Performance.
On Ubuntu, I have enabled ForceFullCompositionPipeline to reduce the usual screen tearing we get with Nvidia drivers on Linux.
On Ubuntu, as per usual, GLXOSD was utilized to record the frames per second. On Windows, as per usual as well, Fraps was utilized to record the frames per second.
The benchmark was performed during the tutorial level, within the same timeframe, with actions as similar as possible. If I accidentally panned the camera, I would redo the test once more.
Through the development of this video, I obtained results I didn't think I would. I went into this expecting the usual 20% upwards to 50% loss of performance with the Linux title versus the base Windows title.
At first, the 361 driver on Linux gave me those kinds of results. Then I tested the 358 drivers, and it's a world of difference! To note, this same driver on Windows makes no difference. I have a feeling we've lost performance on the Linux driver due to the recent addition of GLVND.
I hope I have not made any mistakes. I took about 5 days to make this video, with 2 days spent on redoing the tests to make absolutely sure I wasn't messing something up.
