[XCOM 2: War of the Chosen] [C/I] 32 - Terrors in the Deep
Fun little bit of trivia! This final mission is always codenamed "Operation Leviathan," which is a reference to the submarine of the same name in XCOM: Terror from the Deep. The Leviathan is considered to be one of, if not THE, best submarines in that game. If you didn't know, now you know! If you did... well, I'll just assume you're a veteran of the franchise and salute you.
Back to present matters: it's the final mission! We've made it! Credit to Central for having guessed that the base of operations for the Avatar Project was in the middle of the ocean all along. While he didn't quite account for the whole underwater part, he was still pretty much on the mark. Maybe we didn't need all of that intel after all...
With this being the source of the Avatar Project and the Elders' final stronghold, it's no surprise that it's got some pretty heavy defenses. For example, our welcoming committe is composed of a pair of Berserkers, who then direct us toward rooms full of Faceless and Andromedons, with a Gatekeeper and a couple of Sectoids sprinkled in for flavor. Oh, and a second serving of more Berserkers!
Sure sounds like a lot, but considering that we've fielded the best of the best for this final operation, the most threatening thing some of these enemies end up doing is taking up one of my units' turns. In addition to having fielded our best troops, our squad is joined by none other than the Commander themselves! Granted it's through an Avatar, but that just means that they get to let loose with some Psionic abilities!
Having the Commander on the field is still a little risky, but I guess if you want to make sure something's done right, sometimes you gotta do it yourself.
