XL2420G -- Overview, Demo, plus Thoughts (is it good?)
BenQ's 1080p G-Synch monitor for smoother gaming.
This monitor is a difficult monitor to judge.
It is a wonderful tool for somebody that wants G-Synch, but they still want to only use one monitor for all of their gaming (to include consoles, or even computers that do not, for some reason utilize DisplayPorts).
But it is very expensive for a 1080p monitor. Subjectively, the picture quality that BenQ went for with this monitor is not my cup of tea. I would not say that it looks bad, but it looks like a TN monitor that has tried too hard to look like an IPS monitor to me. I would have preferred it looked more like an older BenQ that I use (the RL2455HM) and just added the 144hz refresh rate and the G-Synch module. This monitor looks good, but subjectively, the image just isn't my style.
I go into this at great length in the video and share many thoughts on this monitor.
I demo PC gaming and console gaming (to include how to switch between the two modes on this monitor)
Please note that I used a camcorder to record off screen, and the monitor looks tremendously better in real life than it does in this video. I do think, however, that the video does a good job of showing some of the smoothness of the monitor.
Motion is this monitor's strong point. It even makes Xbox One games look and feel somewhat better, which surprised me, seeing how most of them are locked at 30fps.
If this monitor had the picture aesthetic of the RL2455HM and didn't try too hard to look like an IPS (I actually like TN panels for gaming), I think it would have been worth about $600 to me. It has a 144hz refresh rate, G-Synch, and it is the only G-Synch monitor I know of with two HDMI ports. This monitor does not lack for features. (it even has a low blue light mode) But, ultimately, the aesthetic doesn't do it for me. It seems like a TN panel that is trying to be an IPS panel, and that just isn't my style.
