YEAH! YOU WANT THOSE GAMES RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LETS SEE YOU CLEAR THEM! - 2 Minute Critique
Everything you need to know in 2 minutes!
“Those Games” is a collection of minigames that are inspired by the fake mobile game ads that promise more than they deliver. The game features five incredibly simple types of minigames, each with 25 to 50 levels of increasing difficulty. Each level has star ratings and rank-up challenges, and completing them provides you with the IQ points used to unlock the more challenging levels.
The concept of creating a full game around those satisfying looking games you see in mobile ads seemed like a genius idea, especially coming from the developers of classic games like Katamari and Klonoa. Yet, the execution leaves much to be desired. The controls are not very intuitive or responsive. The star ratings and time limits can be frustrating and arbitrary. The main issue is the lack of variety and depth, as there are only five minigames, and the variations on each are very uninspired. Additionally, the vast majority of the levels are not very engaging or challenging, and feel heavily padded.
Although the game delivers exactly what it says on the tin, realistically there is not enough content here to warrant a full priced game. The game could benefit from more minigames, better controls, and less filler content. The game is little more than a novelty suitable for casual players who want to waste some time or satisfy their curiosity, but not for players who are looking for a rewarding or immersive experience. The game is not a bad game, but it is underwhelming.
It's disheartening to see a game with such potential fall short of expectations. While it may have been an earnest attempt, what was delivered feels insubstantial, much like the games they were trying to parody
Overall, I give this game 54%.
