The-Evil-Within is a chilling survival horror game that channels the feel of the classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. The game follows Detective Sebastian Castellanos as he investigates a gruesome mass murder and finds himself dragged into a surreal and twisted nightmarish world filled with monstrous creatures. The game combines action, stealth and intricate puzzles with exploration. In the true horror survival style the ammunition is scarce, the enemies are relentless, and the difficulty level is demanding.

The game's art direction isn't subtle, with blood-soaked corridors to abominable creatures. The environments are dripping with macabre details and grotesque imagery that create an unsettling and oppressive atmosphere. Sound design is equally impactful in intensifying the experience, with haunting music, unnerving sounds, and well used audio cues contributing the to the overall feeling of dread.


Despite creating an intense atmosphere, the gameplay is less polished. The game suffers consistency issues, shifting between horror and action. The plot is monotonus and predictable, and will leave many unsatisfied. It's not helped by the dull leading character, abundance of clichés, and the slow or uneven pacing issues. Some chapters feel drawn out, and the 15 hour playtime feels padded. The camera angles occasionally frustrate, especially during intense encounters.

While lacking in originality, it does well in incorporating the elements it borrows from its peers into a solid package. It's not perfect, and it shows it's age at times, but this is still an atmospheric and memorable gaming experience that will really appeal to those looking for a classic horror game with a challenge.

Summary
