This is video #02 in my playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX for the GameBoy Color. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/gubGhbij6Hs

Previously, after the game began, Link recovered his Shield L-1 and Sword L-1. He has found the first Piece of Heart and Secret Seashell in Mabe Village, and he has begun a trading game. His next goal is to investigate the Mysterious Forest.

Before getting lost in the woods, he does a bit of fishing at the fishing hole north of Madam MeowMeow's house (time 0:26). The primary target is the big fish hiding directly underneath Link. For catching it, Link earns Piece of Heart #02! On top of that, he earns 20 Rupees.

Then, northwest of town, he begins exploring the Mysterious Forest (time 2:18). A bush keeps the weaponless out. Just inside, the owl will drop in for some more conversation. He tells Link to find the Tail Key in this forest and use it to enter the Tail Cave south of the village.

The forest features Moblins, classic Zelda enemies. Their spears are easy to block with the shield. Also, look out for the Red Zols, which will split into Gels when struck with a normal sword swing.

A few screens in, Link finds a mischievous raccoon (time 4:10). This confusing fellow will drop Link off in another section of the forest, but with the Select button map, it is hard to get lost. The problem is that Link needs to go north past the raccoon.

The northeast exit from the woods leads Link to a new region, the Koholint Prairie (time 5:46). In this vicinity, he will find the Witch's Hut (time 5:59). The witch's rhyme points out that she needs a Toadstool. Too bad we can't drop by the Mushroom Kingdom.

Anyway, back in the Mysterious Forest, Link finds a cave entrance (time 7:29). In the first room, avoid standing on the cracked tiles, or Link will fall. By destroying the crystals and moving the center block, Link can open the chest to get 50 Rupees (time 7:50). The corridor to the north contains Green Zols, which are nothing to worry about. The third room has a Piece of Heart that cannot be reached yet.

After exiting, Link will find the Sleepy Toadstool (time 8:31). This is what the old hag wants.

So, Link returns to the Witch's Hut in Koholint Prairie (time 10:23). He has to assign the Sleepy Toadstool to a button and give it to her. She uses it to brew up some Magic Powder for him! At first, Link can carry 20 lots of Magic Powder. One good use of Magic Powder is to light torches. Link can get more Magic Powder by bringing more Sleepy Toadstools to the witch.

In the Mysterious Forest, Link returns to the screen with the mischievous raccoon (time 12:19). He now has to sprinkle some of the Magic Powder on him. The raccoon will spazz out ... and turn back into Tarin! Apparently, this happened because he was sniffing mushrooms. I wonder if this ever happened to Mario.

Link can now get to the screen to the north (time 13:12). There, he finds the Tail Key, which he needs to enter the Tail Cave. The owl will flutter down and tell Link to get moving.

South of the village, he examines the statue with the keyhole to open up Level 1: Tail Cave (time 16:26). Time to explore the first dungeon of the game! The first Small Key is in the first room to the west after getting rid of the Hardhat Beetles. The room beyond contains the Compass (time 17:00). The Compass is very useful for many reasons. For one thing, its tone lets you know if there is a key in the room. Too bad this audio cue is not in later games. It also shows the location of chests and the dungeon boss.

North of the entrance, Link can step on the switch to reveal a chest with another Small Key (time 17:47). In the next room to the east, defeating all the foes reveals the chest with the Map.

North and west from there, a chest out in the open contains a Small Key (time 18:33). In the next room to the west, defeating the Mini-Moldorm reveals a chest with 20 Rupees.

A locked door is to the north (time 19:17). After going around the barriers, Link has to move the left-hand block to open the shutter door leading west (time 19:31). In the next room, he must use his shield to knock over the Spiked Beetles and then strike them. When the Spiked Beetles are down, a stairway appears in the northeast corner (time 20:06). There are a couple of side-view screens with Goombas from the Super Mario Bros. series.

Beyond, Link will finally find the dungeon's treasure, the Roc's Feather (time 20:32). Equip this, and Link can jump! What a concept! This will allow him to clear small gaps.

Description continued in the comments.
