Previously, after clearing Level 2: Bottle Grotto, Link began exploring the great Ukuku Prairie of south-central Koholint Island. He visited Richard at Richard's Villa and agreed to retrieve 5 Golden Leaves from Kanalet Castle. At the end, he had acquired Secret Seashell #06 from the Seashell Mansion and Secret Seashell #07 from the next screen to the east.

Before infiltrating Kanalet Castle, Link will hunt for more Seashells, most of which are not on the seashore. South, west, south, and south from the Seashell Mansion, he finds a place where a boulder is in an angle between donut-shaped barriers (time 1:09). Lifting this boulder with the Bracelet, he finds Secret Seashell #08.

At Martha's Bay to the south, there is a mermaid in the water, but there is nothing to do here at the moment.

One screen to the west of the previous Seashell, Link finds a cave entrance set in a plateau (time 1:43). Look out for the skull crabs within.

West of the entrance, he can blast through the westernmost portion of the wall (time 2:05). The corridors beyond will eventually lead him out to the top of the plateau in the same overworld screen.

One screen to the north, while he is standing directly in front of the owl statue, he can dig to the west to get Secret Seashell #09 (time 3:04).

Going back through the cave system, this time, he goes south from the screen where he bombed through the wall. This takes him out one screen south of the other two cave entrances. He is now in the Martha's Bay area. Another telephone booth is two screens south from there. Ulrira will remind Link of his need for bananas.

One screen east of the telephone booth, Link will find a bush on the southwest shore (time 4:45). Slashing it reveals Secret Seashell #10. Methinks the mermaid statue on the northeastern shore is concealing something...

The rest of Martha's Bay is a bust for now, so Link retraces his steps to the Seashell Mansion (time 6:22). Since he has returned with EXACTLY 10 Seashells, he is rewarded with Secret Seashell #11. As with the Seashell he gets at 5, the Seashell that he gets at 10 can be missed forever.

Link heads to Kanalet Castle (time 7:21). The front gates are shut, so he has to find another way in. Two screens east of the gates, he finds Kiki the monkey (time 7:33). Kiki wants the Bananas Link got as part of the trading sequence. If Link hands them over, Kiki will get his friends to build a bridge to the northern shore! Not only that, on the bridge, Link will find a Stick that was left over from their construction. This is the next implement in the trading sequence.

Another telephone booth is a few screens north from the new bridge. Ulrira will now advise Link to bomb suspicious places.

One screen west of the phone booth, Link will be by Kanalet Castle's northeastern wall (time 9:08). That bush looks mighty suspicious. Bombing it reveals a stairway leading to a side-view tunnel. Past the non-threatening Goombas and slightly threatening spikes, there is a ladder leading up to the north-central part of Kanalet Castle's courtyard. We are in! Look out for the hostile Kanalet Soldiers on patrol.

In the central-western screen of the courtyard, there is a crow perched on one of the trees (time 9:41). Link must spook it by throwing a stone at it and then kill it to get Golden Leaf #1. Be quick, or it will fly away.

In the central-eastern screen, there is a star-shaped pattern of holes (time 10:27). A Kanalet Soldier will pop his head out from a random hole and toss bombs out. Link will have to hit him as he is emerging to pick up Golden Leaf #2.

Now, Link heads into the castle through the main entrance (time 10:55). In the second screen, he must defeat the two Kanalet Soldiers and the Red Zol to pick up Golden Leaf #3. Be careful of the invincible Bubble.

On the fourth screen, Link can hit the floor switch to open the main gates of the castle (time 11:40). Just be sure that if you want all the photographs for the album in the DX version, you have gotten Richard's picture at the gates first.

On the upper walkway, Link can go upstairs from the third screen (time 11:55). On the first screen of the upper level, he can bomb the western relief to release an angry Kanalet Soldier. Defeating it will earn Link Golden Leaf #4. Then, Link must go east along the upper walkway.
