Zolarg ICE WORLD New Base Tips - My Colony Game Guide | Ep 4 | 0.45 Update
With the new 0.45 update of My Colony there is a new ice world for both the Zolarg and the League of Independent States.
I had to restart my base because I made too many antanium smelters which ate all my gold. I also didn't build enough mining operations before all the gold was gone.
New Zolarg Ice Map Tips:
You want to use extra large (or mega on pc) map size with abundant resources.
Each map has limited crystalline deposits so you need to be able to make your own synthetic crystal (the green stuff) before you run out. This is why we chose a larger abundant map.
Synthetic crystalline requires rum so you’ll need to unlock that research early.
You can block in areas using compacted snow path to trap the synthetic crystalline. You will probably want to do this near the edges of the map, past the normal crystalline or your tundra bugs will harvest it before it has a chance to grow. You only need to plant a few synthetic crystalline. It will spread and give you infinite crystalline.
Each map also has a limited amount of gold. You’ll need to have some mining operations set up before you use up all the gold on the map or you’re screwed.
The mining operation requires civics and the civics require the Elders Mound. The Elders Mound requires gold though, which can only come from the mining operation once the gold on the map is gone. Because of this, it would take a very long time to ramp up gold production without help from a parent colony.
Don’t build too many antanium smelters because they consume gold and gold is limited early game. Six should do it. Adjust based on map size and gold resources.
The goal is to get a Deep Space Transceiver built so you can be annexed by a larger colony which can supply you with resources.
They added a paste boiler in 0.46 which turns paste into atmosphere. This was greatly needed because building atmosphere would have been very slow without it.

If it seems like this update is rushed, it was. It's ok though. There were a lot of bug fixes made to pathfinding (again), and colonist/vehicle selection. I also found a bug that was making harvesting vehicles request a new path from the path finder almost non-stop, which is now fixed. This should increase performance and help with mobile battery consumption.
Beyond that, this was mostly a Zolarg update. You might notice they have a new alien artifact of their own, the Alien Relic. This comes from the same ancient alien race as the Alien Artifacts on human worlds, and will open up the Zolarg's own alien tech tree in the updates to come. Eventually there will be three classes of ancient alien resources in the game and combining them will allow each team to unlock the ultimate ancient power in the game! But that is a ways off.
Finally, for premium users, a casual Creative Mode has been added. All building options are unlocked and cost nothing to build, so you can make whatever kind of colony you want. Offline only, of course.
One final thing to note, the server that the web version of My Colony is hosted on is acting up right now. I think I am being throttled because I have used up all of my hosting bandwidth for the month. I expect it to be resolved by Oct 1, and it shouldn't impact the Android/iOS/Windows/Mac/Linux versions of the game, only the browser-based version.
