Today I read a post on the Facebook ZX Spectrum Next Public Group that you can load alternate cores. I downloaded the Atari 2600 core and gave it a try. Not bad.

Alt Cores for the ZX Spectrum Next:

Notes and Instructions pulled from Spectrum Next FB Group.

Quick Start Instructions for other cores as posted by Miguel Angel Rodríguez Jódar and Victor Trucco - **PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER THE AUTHORS FOR SUPPORT, THESE ARE PROOF OF CONCEPT CORES PROVIDED AS IS**

__NOT EVERY CORE SUPPORTS EVERYTHING ON THE NEXT. SOME DO NOT EVEN SUPPORT THE CASE's KEYBOARD AND RELY ON THE PS/2 ONE. READ THE CORE'S INSTRUCTIONS__

If not already named in that way, rename the core's bit file to core001.bit and place the core001.bit file in the root folder of your card.

Press and hold C then F1. In the core update menu select Y and let it update.

Power down and restart.

You'll boot normally but once you're in NextZXOS (or any personality you've chosen)

give (In ZX BASIC and NextBASIC): OUT 9275,16: OUT 9531,255 (must be given together)

in NextBASIC only: REG 16,255

Have fun. I REPEAT; DO NOT ASK FOR SUPPORT FOR THESE. WE WILL ONLY SUPPORT CORES WHEN OFFICIALLY INCLUDED IN THE DISTRIBUTION! Thanks!
