1000 Block Build Race (Minecraft minigame)
I've been working on a mini-game that I call "1000 Block Build Race". It requires the latest snapshots to work (14w08 or better).
Download: http://bit.ly/Pdtt8q
Two players or two teams of players race to be the first to build a copy of a pre-made structure. They are given materials in a chest to use. You start the game by having two players stand on the wood pressure plate in front of the build pads. The structure is randomly selected from 1 of 64 pre-built structures. I use the new /clone and /testforblocks commands to copy and compare the structure to what the players are building. The builds are 10 by 10 by 10, for 1000 blocks maximum (hence the name). If players get stuck, there is a game reset button.
Besides the main game, there is a system that will play music during the game, and an object show mode that will display the pre-made structures (it stops automatically if the game is started).
This is a slight bit of a BETA release. The game all works, and so does the music system. I've tested the main game many times, but not all the builds have been tested, so 1 or 2 might be missing some materials. The object show mode has a few glitches though and sometimes skips some objects.
There is 1 build in particular that will be difficult (jukebox), but all the others should be relatively easy. I try to avoid hidden blocks (block you can't see a face of), and most of the build that have hidden blocks specify (using a named paper) that the object is solid.
I also try to avoid problematic blocks, such as corner stairs (looks the same but item data is different depending upon direction placed), leaves (data change if/when they are checked for decay), etc. See this post: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2467222-testforblocks-and-problematic-blocks/
The center example structure is currently protected by putting the players in spectator mode when they approach it, and putting them back in survival when they get far enough away. This lets players fly around the structure to examine all sides, but can cause players to fall and get hurt as the go back to their build, or get stuck in the ground. I could change this to put them in adventure mode, but I thought that the flying would be helpful.
Most of the builds are either simple structures, 'bigatures' - big version of single blocks, or example builds of helpful redstone machines. Some of these builds need you to know about snapshot changes - like being able to craft mossy cobble. There are also 4 builds of player face cubes, in two versions each - Minecraft Devs, Yogscast, Mindcrackers, and Hermitcrafters. I'm not familiar with all the players on the blocks (although I do follow at least 1 of each group but the devs on Youtube), so I just made faces for the ones that seemed to have the most followers.
Changing the pre-made structures is easy, get into the underground area (see the sign behind the main building), rebuild one of the structures on the 10x10 pads, and put the items in the chest just in front of the pad. No need to touch any of the command blocks.
If you put this on a server, I suggest peaceful difficulty and mobs off. Food is provided (except for one build where you need to make food), so you can play on other difficulties. You can play one player vs another, but teams of two seem to work well also.
I'd like to thank my testers (you'll see them in the map), and Docm77 for giving me the idea for this (in one of his snapshot videos), and Mr. Mumbo, who's designs I've used for one of the builds.
So download the game, try it out, and give me feedback and suggestions!
