This is a quick video that show off a system that can be used to transport items out of your mine using chest minecarts, without using booster rails. Instead, a furnace minecart is used to push the chest minecart around the track and out of your mine, with pistons set to block the track until the chest is loaded or unloaded.

NOTE: Never fully fill the loading chest. If you fill the chest full, and items have already flowed into the hopper, there will be more items the the chest minecart can hold, and so the hopper won't fully empty, and so the piston won't retract to let the carts leave and empty.

I then on the fly modify the system to stop the cart at the loading area if there are no items to load (otherwise they will keep looping between the loading and unloading areas).
