Ori Will of the Wisps, aka Ori and the Blind Forest 2, is coming to PC and Xbox on March 3. This Will of the Wisps gameplay is based on first three hours, so don’t expect a full Ori and the Will of the Wisps review. But it’ll hopefully give a good taste of everything to come: the new weapons, the new moves, the new dungeons and bosses - as the game’s producer told us, Ori and Will of the Wisps is not just Ori 1.5, it’s a substantial new game.
We hope to get an Ori and the Will of the Wisps PC review on the channel before release, but in the absence of that, these are our current impressions. Ori 2 has a gentler start, with a new save system softening the difficulty, but once it picks up, it has the hard edge of the earlier game. This time you can modify it with Ori and the Will of the Wisps’ shards system, a range of trinkets that buff Ori in various ways - similar to Hollow Knight’s charms.
We also test out Ori and the Will of the Wisps combat, putting new sword, bow and fireballs through their paces. We dreaded Ori the Will of the Wisps having too much fighting, but it’s really slick and slots into the action as if it had always been there. We also spoke to Gareth Coker, the composer of Ori and the Will of the Wisps soundtracks, to find out the secrets of how music shapes the action and helps show Ori’s new power. It sounds awesome.
