#189 SONIC BLASTMAN II (Normal Mode)- Beating My Snes Games
Here is of my full playthrough of Sonic Blastman II done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES collection on their starting settings, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.

-Starting life as that arcade punching game, you know the one where you wear the glove and attempt to smash the face of progressively tougher opponents until you're saving the earth by punching Asteroids away? Well it made to the Snes, just not in any recognisable form.
Yes, this indeed it is also a sequel. The first game isn't considered a bad acquisition but this really is the one worth hunting down. It's a hard ask to trouble the absolute system classics in the genre but I wouldn't shy away from defending this as a serious contender.
The general look of the game is pleasing enough but it mimics many of the already well trodden footprints it's brawler brethren display, therefore limiting certain wow factors. Where it succeeds in blinding the opposition however, is with mechanics! There's enough variety and finesse in the attack to really push the boundaries of what defines a great beat em up!
Each of the 3 characters has combos, multiple throws, multiple range attacks, dash attacks, air attacks and even two specials. Even the genre's awful trait of special attacks draining health is replaced with far more rewarding item replenishing powerups.
Enemy and boss encounters delivers the right balance of challenge and fodder to greivously harm mindlessly. Its what turns a good brawler into a great one. It's definitely not an easy game though with the starting settings. However a little patience should see you through soon enough.
Really my only complaints come from the rather sporadic offering of health items, the occasional moments of invincibility certain enemies demonstrate and the insufferably annoying dash forward I only ever seem to trigger when surrounded by the toughest onslaught of enemies!
Patterns for manipulation do reveal themselves eventually proving a far more manageable experience thereafter.
An NTSC version did see release but the staggering price difference between that and the Japanese original left me with little choice.
A highly recommend entry for fans of lesser known beat em ups! Well done Taito.
