1969 Barracuda 493 Stroker Build – Custom Brake Pedal and Steering | 5 Weeks to Moparty (Ep. 2)
Welcome to the second episode of the Big Block Barracuda Blitz, my countdown to getting this 1969 Plymouth Barracuda race ready in just 5 weeks for Holley’s Moparty 2025 in Bowling Green, KY.
This week, progress means taking a step back to move forward. I pulled the 493 stroker big block back out, along with the steering, brake system, and other parts, so I can properly prep and paint the engine bay. In this episode, I reveal the finished steering setup, explain how I mounted the brake pedal assembly and master cylinder, and share my plan to custom build a new brake lever to increase the pedal ratio for better stopping power.
Before laying down paint, I drilled every needed hole in the firewall and engine bay to avoid any post paint surprises. I also drop some exciting progress updates: the upholstery is now at the shop for a complete redo, and Trans Masters in Escondido CA is building a drag focused 727 TorqueFlite transmission to handle the big block’s power on the strip.
Follow along as I document the complete race car build process from fabrication and drivetrain prep to wiring, interior work, and tuning. Great Grandma's old Barracuda is transforming from the slant 6 grocery getter it was born as to a track focused Mopar racing machine.
If you are a muscle car enthusiast or Mopar fan, subscribe for weekly updates on this epic Moparty build. Do not miss a moment of the fabrication, painting, and race prep as we race the clock to get this Barracuda ready to hit the track.
