2016 Ford Edge | 5 Reasons to Buy | Autotrader
This is the 2016 Ford Edge, the epitome of a modern midsize crossover. While most of us don't off-road regularly, we all want decent manners on the pavement and solid traction in troubled weather. That is what the 2016 Edge offers, since it's based on the terrific Ford Fusion sedan. Check out our five reasons why the Ford Edge lives up to its name.
Drives Like a Champ
Say goodnight to unstable SUVs, and say good morning to one solid crossover. The Edge stays firmly planted, and its handling is almost in sport-sedan territory. Unlike flimsy competitors, this crossover is precise and composed, and its design even makes it look more athletic.
Strong Engines
The standard engine in the current model used to be an option in the previous Edge. It's a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, a fair amount of power to exploit the Edge's great chassis. Plus, the engine returns 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The Sport trim offers a 2.7-liter turbo V6 kicking out 315 hp, more than enough for passing and cruising with ease.
Quality Cabin
Seating five comfortably, the Edge also has ample room for storage. If you're seated in the front, you'll enjoy a refined dash layout with soft-touch plastics. If you're in the rear, you can relax in reclining seats. All trim levels offer a quiet ride thanks to Ford's effective sound insulation.
Fine Features
Across the board on all trim levels, there are numerous available features, including a panoramic sunroof, an upgraded Sony sound system and heated rear seats. Even if you opt for the base trim level, you still get a rearview camera and Ford's SYNC voice-activated infotainment system.
Premium Feel, Regular Price
You might expect for a midsize crossover that drives this well, exudes such an upscale vibe and offers this many premium features to be German and expensive. But the Ford Edge starts under $30,000, significantly less than a luxury vehicle like a BMW X3.
Autotrader Says:
Improving on the generation before it in every way possible, the 2016 Ford Edge is at its best. Midsize-crossover shoppers should pass on test driving the premium luxury models and take a spin in the Ford Edge.
