When you're at the top, everyone wants a shot at you. For years, the BMW 3 Series has shown that you can never lead from behind. Here are five reasons to buy BMW's best-selling model, the 2016 BMW 3 Series.
Engine Efficiency
BMW has always been aware of the importance of an efficient vehicle. Without compromising performance, the automaker has worked hard to save drivers money at the pump. The 320i returns a combined 28 miles per gallon, and the 328i with the automatic transmission gets you 27 mpg combined. In either automatic or manual versions, the 3 Series is a bona fide fuel saver.
Subtle Styling
The 3 Series looks as good as ever, but with some added, minor adjustments. The fascias have received a light reshaping on the front and back. Overall, the vehicle has a stellar combination of aggressiveness, simplicity and elegance. The optional LEDs give it an up-to-date, modern feel, but the 3 Series never loses its unmistakable BMW appearance.
Trim Levels
BMW targets a wide market with the 3 Series. In sedan form, there are a few trim levels. The 320i kicks things off, and our 340i xDrive test car is at the top of the lineup, replacing the previous 335i. Also available are the Touring edition, the Gran Turismo line and the jaw-dropping M3. You can even opt for a plug-in hybrid model or a diesel engine. With so many options, you can believe there's a 3 out there for everybody.
Contemporary Cabin
Inside, you'll find high-quality material throughout, as virtually all aspects of the 3 Series were given proper attention. Standard on the 320i is dual-zone climate control and the iDrive infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen. However, our test car had the Technology package with a larger 8.8-in screen, which we loved, as well as an amazing Harman Kardon audio system.
Dynamic Drive
On the road, the 3 Series offers performance that amazes and thrills. It will hug almost any corner it encounters thanks to a reworked chassis and unmatched weight distribution. Our all-wheel-drive 340i xDrive test car had a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharged to produce 320 horsepower. But what's really remarkable is the way that power is placed. German engineering is as good as it gets, and the 3 Series embodies a true luxury-sport sedan in every way.
