2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV | New Car Technology | Autotrader
With everyone's smartphones practically fused to their hands these days, on-board technology in new cars in nearly as important as reliability, performance and comfort. Here's a closer look at the impressive tech that comes in the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
The Bolt is an all-electric car that uses lithium-ion batteries, so that's fairly advanced tech already. Inside, the Bolt uses some innovative tech that's becoming increasingly common, even on lower-priced cars. The 8-inch driver information cluster behind the steering wheel and the 10.2-in color touchscreen give this car an instant high-tech feel, something we think EV buyers will want.
Part of the fun of owning an electric car is you can see a detailed power management system that goes beyond a simple gas gauge. The Bolt's power display is well-designed and makes it easy to monitor power usage, your current range, and how your driving is affecting the available power in real time. The display is easy to navigate, and if you love your phone, the touchscreen will feel even more familiar with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Just plug your phone in, tap the icon, and the display looks a lot like your phone's interface.
Like most Chevrolet models, there's a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot with a really strong signal that makes it easier to stream videos on the go. Got passengers with phones and tablets? No problem. The hot spot can support up to seven devices.
Chevy raised its game on the interactive technology as well ... the MyChevrolet mobile app allows you to track your Wi-Fi data usage, schedule service appointments and lock or unlock your car. One of our favorite features is the programmable remote start and climate control. No more getting into a freezing cold or scorching hot car.
And for those new to the EV experience, this app can help you find charging stations near you, review diagnostics, and program the vehicle to begin charging later in the evening, when utility rates are usually at their lowest.
That's a lot of technology packed into a subcompact electric car. GM is betting the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt is going to get a lot of shoppers off the fence and into going green.
