2017 Ford Fusion Sport | Real World Review | Autotrader
The Ford Fusion has been a top-seller and a family favorite for a while now. But Ford's shaking things up with the all-new 2017 Ford Fusion Sport.
Ford's efforts to offer up a spicier midsize sedan start with some exterior styling changes. Up front, there's a glossy black mesh grille. In back, the quad tip exhaust and rear spoiler hint at the Sport's saucier personality.
Our Fusion Sport tester offered all-wheel drive and came well-equipped with plenty of standard features and option packages. And it's powerful, too. Outfitted with a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine yielding 325 horsepower makes merging into traffic and changing lanes on the highway pretty fun.
The Ford Fusion Sport delivers excellent ride quality for a smooth and quiet on-road experience. The suspension has been tweaked with high-tech dampers that can sense upcoming potholes in the road and adjust so that you don't feel the bumps as much. And the advanced suspension system allows you to choose between Normal or Sport mode to tailor the ride to your liking.
Overall, the cabin is very spacious with plenty of head- and leg-room. A sleek dash and comfortable, upscale seats set the tone when you get behind the wheel. And there are lots of modern upgrades like high quality finishes, ambient lighting and a new dial shifter that frees up center console space and gives you easy access to a USB port. And more importantly ... makes room for your morning coffee.
When it comes to tech, we like the optional user-friendly SYNC3 system with enhanced voice recognition, which adds a larger touchscreen and gives the centerstack a more streamlined look. There's also Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. Available SYNC Connect along with the Ford Pass app allows you to remotely access your vehicle to do all sorts of things, like make sure the windows are up or the doors are locked. You can even program a time every day for your car to start remotely. And if you have young drivers, Ford MyKey comes in handy, allowing you to set limits on speed and stereo volume, among other things.
As for safety, the 2017 Ford Fusion has received excellent government crash test ratings and features an impressive list of active assist features, especially the ParkAssist technology and the improved voice-activated navigation system.
All said, the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport is tailored to the driver who wants a practical sedan with a little edge. With its impressive power, comfort and an attractive $40,000 price point, it should give shoppers something to get excited about.
