Joining the X1 through X6 crossovers, BMW has finally completed six in a row with the debut of the 2018 X2. Shorter and sleeker, the new crossover’s athletic styling belies the shared underpinnings of the more convenience-focused X1.
BMW calls it a “sports activity coupe,” and it’s all about blending the old with the new. This ethos is best represented by two details: The roundel located on the X2’s C-pillar--a callback to classic Bimmers--and the upside-down orientation of the kidney grille--a first for BMW design.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged 4 cylinder makes 228 horsepower, sent to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive system. And driver assistance technologies include traffic jam assistant, which helps manage the car in stop-and-go traffic, and parking assistant, which can identify suitable parking spaces for the X2 and even steer the car into those spots.
