Honda debuts its available-in-all-states Clarity Plug-In Hybrid for 2018, which joins the California-only Clarity Fuel Cell and California-and-Oregon Clarity Electric to provide a full lineup of green vehicles nationwide. Offering a total of 340 miles of range, including 47 miles of all-electric driving, the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid also offers the Honda Sensing system, which includes a number of advanced safety and driver-assistance features, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
All Clarity Plug-In Hybrids use a 17-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery in combination with an electric motor and a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine that together produce 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of immediately available torque. The brakes are regenerative, but our reviewer found them easier to modulate than others he’s used, and he complimented the Clarity’s excellent handling, thanks largely to the low center of gravity that results from placing heavy batteries at the bottom of the cabin.
