Honda debuts the 5th-generation Odyssey for 2018, packing “the driver’s minivan” with more features and power as well as better handling. The new Magic Slide second-row seating offers a three-seat bench with a middle seat that can be removed to leave two movable and removable captain’s chairs behind the driver and front passenger. A new infotainment system is faster and more responsive, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and offers new features and services that should help drivers who have to manage youngsters or other passengers in the back of the van.
All Odysseys use a new tuned version of the 3.5-liter V6 that now produces 280 hp and 262 lb-ft, improvements of 32 hp and 12 lb-ft over last year, respectively. All-wheel drive is still not available, but two new transmissions are: a ZF 9-speed automatic in lower trims and a Honda 10-speed in higher trims that our reviewer called a big improvement over the old 6-speed.
