It is once again time for a new year!
So here is the new year montage for the let's plays I did in 2023!
These montage videos have kind of become my excuse to record music!
The first half of the montage has sections dedicated to each let's play I did one at a time.
Aside from the intro, and the Undertale and Silent Hill: Downpour sections, the first half of the montage has guitar and keyboard covers of music from the games/visual novels I let's played in 2023. (There is also a fair bit of improv in there too!)
The second half of the montage is all original music. (Mostly improvised!)
So here is the order for each section of the montage with time stamps:

Intro - 00:00 - 00:59 (Side note: It annoys me that I somehow overlooked a typo in the intro! Happens every time!)
Undertale - 00:59 - 03:55
Persona 3 - 03:55 - 06:56
Silent Hill: Downpour - 06:56 - 09:50
Little Busters! - 09:50 - 11:51
Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water - 11:52 - 14:51
Digimon World: Next Order - 14:51 - 17:22
Rune Factory: Oceans - 17:22 - 23:19
Second half of the montage - 23:19 - End of video

So happy new year to you viewers!
Now with that out of the way, time to ramble a bit about the music I made for the montage video!
The first music I recorded for the montage was the Project Zero and Digimon World music.
I played along to the credits song from the former to try to get the timing right.
I improvised a fair bit here and there, but I liked how it turned out! (I played it so well that even youtube picked it up as copyrighted music! Kind of annoying!)
My cover of bony resort and Machinedramon's theme was a bit messy, but it turned out okay!
I also liked how my Silent Hill inspired guitar improv turned out! (The drums were played in ableton using my laptop keyboard, which was awkward to use!)
The Undertale section was original improv played on my main keyboard. (I also played the drums on the same keyboard, which was even more awkward due to how far apart some notes were! I played an F# to an F an octive higher for the drums!)
That one was inspired both by the game's sound, and classical music. (I wanted to play something where I kept coming back to the same note while playing through a scale!)
The Little Busters! section was a cover of the theme song to that visual novel. It was a pain to record due to me having to sync up the music as I played along to it! (I recorded the chords first, and then the melody afterwards.)
That one also kind of ends awkwardly due to me taking a while to hit stop on the recording, so I was just playing chords as I tried to get the window for ableton up to hit stop! (Easily the most frustrating recording I did for this montage!)
But frustration aside, I think it turned out nicely! (So nicely in fact that even Youtube's copyright picks it up as a copyrighted arrangement of music! Again, kind of annoying!)
Another one that was a bit messy was the Persona 3 music.
I originally recorded a more trumpet driven cover of the dorm theme using my main keyboard, but it didn't save properly!
So I ended up recording a more chaotic sounding version with guitar and keyboard. (There was also some improv mixed in as well.)
And then there is the Rune Factory: Oceans section, which was originally just going to have my guitar only cover of the music from that game.
But that section ended up being longer than the track, so I recorded another track where I played the melodies on guitar and a midi keyboard I got for Christmas. (All tracks that have drums past this point in the montage were played on that midi keyboard.)
The rest of the montage was all original music that I played on my guitars and keyboards. (I even recorded a short track just to get the bird to make a cameo in the montage!)
So I hope you enjoyed the montage video, and the music I recorded!
Thanks for watching, and happy new year!
