Nintendo has a lot of classic systems, I mean, the original Nintendo Entertainment System is what helped me really fall in love with video games and Nintendo itself, but what about the rest of the retro gaming world? Let's take a look at 3 of the greatest non-Nintendo home consoles of all-time and why I think they are must-play and must-own!

Sega Master System
The Sega Master System was Sega's flagship console before the Genesis came out. While it used standard cartridges, it also had a unique slot for game cards. Plus, it even came with a built-in game! However, one quirky feature was that you had to press the pause button directly on the console, not the controller. Despite that, it's a fantastic system with a lot to offer.

JVC X'Eye
The JVC X'Eye is a sleek, all-in-one console that combines the Sega Genesis and Sega CD. This makes the entire setup much simpler and more reliable than other Sega CD models, which often had laser or disc tray issues. It even works with the 32X, though you’ll have to deal with the 32X partially blocking the CD tray. Sure, it's no Sega Tower of Power, but it's a sexy piece of hardware for sure! It’s an incredibly cool console and one of my favorites.

TurboGrafx-16
The TurboGrafx-16 and its Japanese counterpart, the PC Engine, are truly special. This console was a 16-bit powerhouse, offering higher fidelity graphics and sound than the 8-bit NES and Master System. Its games came on unique "HuCards" or "TurboChips," which were essentially thin game cards. The controller also featured built-in turbo switches, a feature that was way ahead of its time. The library for this system is fantastic and still holds up today. Games like Bonk's Adventure, Air Zonk, Adventure Island, and more are all classics!
