39When it comes to the original XBOX, I've been a very vocal non-fan. Most of that comes down to my dislike of the controller, but with things like the Retro Fighters Hunter, I've now played my original XBOX more than ever.

I've been called out lately for hating on some classic controllers—I'm looking at you, Xbox S, Duke, and Xbox 360! I just can't stand them and always recommend the Retro Fighters Hunter as a far superior option. But all that controller talk got me thinking about the console I only got into later: the Original Xbox. With that, and also things like the Electron Shepherd HDMI Adapter, I've been looking for more games to enjoy that were on the OG XBOX. 1. Enter the Matrix
If you're a fan of the first three Matrix films, this is a must-play. It's not some tacked-on movie game; it plays directly into the movie's narrative, similar to the amazing Animatrix short films (which I also highly recommend—check out "The Final Flight of the Osiris"). This game is a true part of the story!
A cool bit of trivia: Enter the Matrix is one of the only, if not the only, Original Xbox game that supports 1080i video output. I personally recommend playing it in 720p and letting your setup upscale it from there for a better overall image quality. Lore, action, and a piece of gaming history!
2. IndyCar Series
For racing fans, you simply have to play IndyCar Series. I believe this was the last dedicated IndyCar racing game we've ever received on any platform! It hails from the early days of the IRL (Indy Racing League), so you won't find modern tracks or road courses, but the open-wheel action is incredibly fun.
The physics hold up well for a game from 2004/2005. While I wish the chassis tuning was a bit more in-depth, it's a fantastic, high-speed racer that open-wheel fans should not overlook.
3. Star Wars Republic Commando
While Halo found its home and launched on the Original Xbox, I honestly think Star Wars Republic Commando is the better game. As someone deeply invested in the Clone Wars era Star Wars lore, this game is a fantastic experience. The narrative is great, the squad-based gameplay is tight, and it just plays so, so well.
Even if you don't have an Original Xbox, you can still play this! It's been ported to Nintendo Switch and other modern consoles like PlayStation and Xbox. Seriously, go check it out.
