Plasma Sword has 22 regular characters. 22. Most of them are clones admittedly, but that just shows how excessive a number 22 character is for a sequel in a game.
That said, Plasma Sword is significantly better as a game than Star Gladiator. The great stages are gone, unfortunately, but the gameplay is significantly faster and more smooth, combos are easier to land, and it's just generally an easier game to play. It's more like Street Fighter with swords than Soul Edge now, but more enjoyable as a result.
Anyway, 22 characters, and there are still 2 hidden characters in the game, for whatever reason. They're both clones too, which somewhat muddles the reason for their inclusion in the first place. Indeed, I simply don't have much to say about Rai-On. He's a decent character I suppose; fast, his combos connect easily, his moves tend to launch him out of harms way. Indeed, he seems to be very similar to Jon Talbain from Darkstalkers. As a character, I suppose he's okay, but definitely nothing too special. Character-wise, I'm not really sure what Capcom was thinking with this game, and both Rai-On and Kaede ultimately feel superfluous.
