3The materials shortage situation is getting so acute that we basically need to focus on it, and secure some more iron. We're literally running out, and since iron and steel are the most common required things to make anything...
Fortunately, we've already secured three good sources, we just need to get things flowing. The longer the transit distances back to base, the better trains start to look compared with traditional belts or chains of robots.
Until this point, the super-short run seemed slightly pointless, but it was really laying the groundwork for this, so we could expand easier. It's time to get us more iron.
After that, we can make other plans, as the endgame materials grind painfully along in the background.
