If you’ve played Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4, you might be wondering why there weren’t any references to New Vegas in 4. Well, there were, just not many, and they were subtle. Here are 5 Fallout New Vegas References in Fallout 4.

5 Fallout New Vegas References in Fallout 4 (in text form)

Number 5. In the Long Road Ahead quest, you’ll need to enter the Med-Tek Research building. If you don’t read the terminal entries, you’d miss this. The Executive Terminal contains summaries from various Med-Tek departments. One of them is a Sales Report Summary from the Med-Tek PR Department which says that Fixer sales are up 12% in seeded zones. This might seem like nothing, but out of every Fallout game, Fixer only appears in New Vegas.

Number 4. In Fallout 4’s Nuka World DLC, you can find six new flavors of Nuka Cola throughout the Nuka World theme park. One of the new ones is Nuka Cola Wild, which was made to compete with the popular Sunset Sarsaparilla that can be found in Fallout New Vegas. It’s not necessarily a reference, but it’s close enough.

Number 3. There are a few special holotapes found in the Commonwealth that are actually games that can be played on your Pip-Boy. One of those games is Atomic Command in which you defend one of 8 cities from falling atomic missiles. One of those cities in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the game, you can see the Fabulous Las Vegas sign.

Number 2. After completing the Secret of Cabot House quest, if you keep Jack Cabot alive, you can ask him what he plans to do now that his father has been dealt with. He then says that he wants to go southwest because his father, Lorenzo Cabot, was convinced that somewhere in the Mojave Wasteland was an ancient alien city that had been buried.

Another one involving the Cabot’s can be found in one of Emogene Cabot’s terminal entries. The entry is from November 9, 2076. The relevant part of the entry is as follows:

“Things are just going from bad to worse. The things Robert tells me... most people don't even know how bad it is. And here we sit, safe in our little Cabot family bubble of privilege.”

This one is a stretch, because the Robert mentioned could easily not be Robert House, which is why I just added it onto number 2.

Number 1. After completing some quests for the Railroad, you can take Deacon as a companion, and companions will sometimes speak to NPCs if you’re not in combat. If you take Deacon to see Deezer, the lemonade serving Mr Handy, he might strike up a conversation with the robot in which he tries to enter a few override codes. One of those codes is “Command override. Vocal audio House, Robert. "Access core programming””. After the codes don’t work, he says that they haven’t worked yet, and that he won them in a poker game.

One more reference is that the song Orange Colored Sky is a song that can be heard on one of the radio stations in Fallout 4. That song was first used for Fallout in New Vegas’s first commercial.
