Fallout New Vegas has a lot of guns in it. Not as many as, say, Borderlands, but still, there’s plenty of variety for every play style out there. Some of the guns don’t have a real-world counterpart, but many of them do. These are 7 Fallout New Vegas Guns in Real Life.

7 Fallout New Vegas Guns in Real Life (in text form)

9mm Pistol: When you begin your journey to track down the man who shot you in the head, Doc Mitchell gives you his Pip-Boy, a handgun, and shoves you out the door. That handgun is simply called the 9mm Pistol. It was manufactured by now defunct M&A Guns Manufacturers before the Great War and is now a standard issue weapon for the New California Republic Army. It is based on Browning’s Hi Power line of handguns, which has been produced since 1935.

10mm SMG: The 10mm Submachine Gun returns from Fallout 3. As the name suggests, it’s an automatic submachine gun that fires a 10mm round. It’s commonly used by Viper Gang members, Great Khans, Kings, Caesar’s Legion soldiers, and many others. The gun is based on the Heckler & Koch SMG 2. The SMG 2 was designed in the 1980s as a replacement to H&K’s MP5, though it was just a prototype design that never saw mass production. While the 10mm is based on the SMG 2, there are 2 notable differences.

Assault Carbine: The Assault Carbine is another fully-automatic firearm found in New Vegas, though it’s name is pretty damn generic. It’s one of the more valuable guns in the game, as well as being one of the most accurate automatic weapons available, despite it’s high fire rate. It can be found on Super Mutants in certain locations, Legion Assassins, the Guns Runners, as well as a few other locations in the Mojave Wasteland. The Assault Carbine is based on the Colt Model 773, a part of the M16 and Commando series of rifles, and was designed primarily for tactical police and security work.

Automatic Rifle: Following the trend of weapon names that are generic as hell, we have the Automatic Rifle, the first DLC weapon on the list thus far. It can be found in the Sierra Madre in a variety of places. The Automatic Rifle is based on the Browning M1918A2 Automatic Rifle, or more commonly known as the BAR.

Single Shotgun: The Single Shotgun is likely to be one of the first weapons you get in Fallout New Vegas, as Powder Gangers are some of the first enemies you’ll encounter and it’s a gun they often use. It can also be found in a few houses in Goodsprings, and more venders throughout the game will carry the it. The Single Shotgun is based on the Harrison & Richardson Pardner shotgun. H&R has sold the gun since the late 1800s, making it, as far as reference weapons go, one of the oldest firearms in the game. The Pardner is available with a variety of barrel lengths and in a wide range of gauges. The Single Shotgun uses a 20g gauge shell, which is a model offered by H&R.

Grenade Rifle: The Grenade Rifle is one of the first launchers you’ll get, depending on how you play the game. It’s fairly useful early on, though its effectiveness is quickly outpaced by weapons like the Grenade Launcher and Missile Launcher. Some Jackal Gang Leaders may carry it and an assortment of other NPC in the game carry it as well. The Grenade Rifle is based on the M79 grenade launcher which was designed for the US Army and first saw use in 1965 in the Vietnam War. Because of its design, it was relatively easy for soldiers to use, to the point where it is still used today, though the US Army has replaced it.

Anti-Material Rifle: The one you’ve been waiting for… the Anti-Material Rifle is one of the most powerful weapons in Fallout New Vegas. And because of the high cost of the weapons itself and the high cost of ammo, it is often a late-game weapon. It is tied with the Paciencia from the Gun Runner’s Arsenal DLC for the highest critical-hit damage in the game. It is a death machine. The Anti-Materiel Rifle is based on the PGM Hecate II, which is the standard heavy sniper rifle of the French Army.
