3Situation:
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the United States, much of South America and, most recently, the Tanoan archipelago. The Tanoan cartel forms a branch of the French Bande des Trois Canards, and is largely responsible for this issue. Over the past few years, local police forces have struggled to control the narcotic trade. Tensions are rising, as it appears their increased income has boosted the confidence of the cartel given increased levels of crime in Tanoa’s major towns and cities. Despite hundreds of arrests and just as many civilian deaths, the state has failed to effectively combat the vast presence of increasingly dangerous narcotics.
Lacking the resources for a dedicated narcotic enforcement department, the 77th JSOC have been asked to assist. Police investigations, which have involved a number of reconnaissance operations and the use of multiple informants, have culminated in the belief that the cartel have been using large fishing and transport vessels to bring their products onto the island, making detection particularly troublesome. It is likely that the drugs are being lined in backpacks and suitcases, before being stored or loaded elsewhere. We will be acting upon this information, coordinating Gendarmerie intelligence services who are currently working to identify some of the individuals from police recordings.
In an unfortunate turn of events, one undercover Gendarmerie operative, [Sgt.] Sefa Bari, seemingly had his cover as local trafficker blown. When meeting with members of the cartel to discuss payment, they swiftly loaded him into their van and he has not been heard from since. Therefore, we will also be working with the Gendarmerie to investigate active leads on cartel depots and stashes, and to rescue [Sgt.] Bari who is likely being transported from Yanukka to Rautake in the early hours of the morning.
