#941 SoulCalibur IV (X360) Hidden Characters (3/11): Sophitia playthrough.
A playthrough of the hidden character Sophitia in the Xbox 360 version of Namco’s SoulCalibur IV/Soul Calibur 4.
The spam queen returns for the final time [like Cervantes, sort-of], and man is she brilliant. I’ve complained before about priority being a bitch in this series, and it’s nice to be on the end of dealing it for once. Sophitia hits hard, quick and is just generally a brilliant character here. Her priority is insane, her attacks come out very quickly and her attacks can hit for impressive damage despite the speed with which they are dealt. In particular, her running B and her running B+K attacks are just fantastic for easily taking down the opponent’s health. And, oh, in a closed arena? She can quite easily get into an air juggle for even more damage. She’s at her most cheesy here, and good God was it horrible back in the day to fight against people playing as her online. She just destroys everything in her path, with even Algol being something of a pushover here.
Also, Sophitia’s might be the worst of the story modes. She gets corrupted by Soul Edge. The sweet, emissary to the Gods themselves. Corrupted by Soul Edge. It’s baffling, and looks as hilarious as it sounds. Sophitia basically goes “THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY” all the time, which is just a little too close to Other M for my tastes. This is not helped by the fact that Algol, in the end, turns out to be some kind of Philosopher King, who proceed to bring up his dead son. Wait, shit. Philosopher King. Is that a motherfucking Plato reference? Here’s hoping.
You’ll also notice that Sophitia drops the name “Pyrrha” from time to time. Note that down; it’s going to be on the test later.
Up next, the original guest character gets his final video.
