#932 SoulCalibur III (PS2) Unplayable Characters (7/8): Shadow Master playthrough.
A playthrough of the unplayable character Shadow Master in the Namco’s SoulCalibur III/Soul Calibur 3.
Shadow Master is another roulette character of sorts. Instead of using regular movesets, however, he randomly uses one of the custom character movesets. It’s actually pretty cool, truth be told, and made for a pretty fun playthrough. Just like with Will o the Wisp, however, if you get stuck with a moveset you don’t like then you’re stuck with it, as happened to me here against Mitsurugi. Luckily, he deals regular damage and takes regular damage, making him much more viable than the rest of the unplayables. Made for a nice change, to say the least.
So Shadow Master’s design isn’t anything to really write home about, but one curious thing about him is that, for some reason, he has Night Terror’s grunts. Yeah, that’s pretty weird. Not entirely sure why that is, but as I’ve mentioned before for some reason when hacking unplayable characters in Namco games they’ll occasionally utilise something from the final boss for some reason, presumably because said final boss is the last “true” character in the game’s coding. It’s intriguing to say the least.
Next time, we finish off the unplayable characters with one of the best oddities of them all.
