#943 SoulCalibur IV (X360) Hidden Characters (5/11): Lizardman playthrough.
A playthrough of the hidden character Lizardman in the Xbox 360 version of Namco’s SoulCalibur IV/Soul Calibur 4.
He’s not that different from before. Surprise surprise. Boy does this game feel like a cash-in for the better part. So, good things about Lizardman? His running attack [while running, A+B] is one of the best in this entire game, with fantastic range and in particular superb damage, not to mention that it can lead to some easy ring outs as well. He also has this really nice command combo where he does this overhead slash before using charging headbutt, which deals decent damage but in particular knocks the opponent back, and generally seems to hit them offguard. Which, in a game with so much blocking. is particularly appreciated.
Lizardman’s version of Soul Edge is a real detriment here though; it will do this thing occasionally called “evil sword berserk” which causes him to temporarily be stunned and unable to attack. Fans of RPGs will probably be reminded of the archetypical cursed weapons of that genre; in particular, Camelot RPGs such as the Shining Force and Golden Sun series. It’s a funny little addition, but this game does love to throw in some weird RPG elements for a supposedly “serious” title, including the ability to level up styles as well as gaining better and varied equipment. Interesting, certainly.
Lizardman’s pretty good on the whole therefore. I didn’t quite find him the force-to-be-reckoned-with that he was back in SCIII, but he’s still a very competent character. As you’d expect of someone based off the spam queen herself.
Next up, the character I had the least fun with in this title.
