A playthrough of the hidden character Rock in the Xbox 360 version of Namco’s SoulCalibur IV/Soul Calibur 4.

Rock is such a bitter disappointment here. Such an utter, utter disappointment. I’m not sure I’ve ever played as a character as lacking as Rock is here. He is slow. He is feeble. He doesn’t hit for much damage. He is easily countered. He looks goofy swinging his axe. Seriously, there’s basically next to nothing redeemable about him. Nearly all of his regular attacks are useless, and he’s practically be turned into a joke character in all but name. The only vague useful attacks he has are his charging shoulder attack, which tends to get blocked by the enemy but can deal decent damage, as well as his…butt stomp attack. Yes, he’s more useful attacking with his arse than he is with his axe. What is this fucking game I swear to god I SWEAR TO GOD.

I don’t care for Rock here, therefore. Given that this is his (current) final appearance in the series too, it’s a bitter disappointment all in all. When a character is most useful by spamming an ass attack with them over and over again, then quite frankly they just weren’t thought through properly. I still wonder why they kept him around as long as they did, when it’s clear they weren’t even sure what to do with him. Or with this series in general.
