Here is my Full playthrough of Paladin's Quest done, as always, using original hardware on a Super Nintendo.

REVIEW:
-So where have I been this past fortnight? I believe 2 weeks is actually the longest period I've not beaten a game in the past 2 years! When put like that it does sound kinda remarkable which I guess it kinda is 😳. Despite numerous lengthy RPGs already toppled in my wake, Paladin's Quest has registered as one of the most time consuming largely due to my complete lack of prior experience with the it.

It's not that this offers much in the way of original RPG gameplay, instead the foundations of just about every tired genre staple; "poor orphan boy exiled from home village sets out to save the world from ultimate destruction", are front and centre. Instead what demands the heavy commitment comes simply from just how long the game is. Honestly, I must have thought I was completely the final section of the game about 5 different times! The repetitiveness of the story's endless seek & return gameplay from village after village after village does grow old rather quickly.

In fairness, there isnt alot wrong with this RPG its just kinda dull 🤷‍♂️. The variety in elemental magic is pretty deep and the ability to level each element individually for each character offers plenty to play with. The overall demand on grinding is thankfully fairly low (tho I never RUN from battles) however random encounter rate is pretty tiring. The games main standout appeal comes from the ability to hire a wealth of different mercenaries to aid in your quest. They all offer different advantages and level up independently, making future decisions to part ways when new options become available, not always an easy one!

Probably Paladin's Quest's biggest adversary is simply the Snes itself and the wealth of excellent RPGs that already support it. Unless you're reinventing the wheel, simply rolling along isnt good enough anymore. Still being released in 92, it is one of the earliest so with hindsight I should be more forgiving.... I'm Not however!
