Due to the rise in third-party publishing arrangements in game development, we believe it is crucial that developers (whether indie or large studios) understand the significance and consequences of these relationships. Subsequently, we will dive into four key aspects of publishing agreements, notably, the key terms (what they mean and what their implications are), red flags to watch out for when it comes to protecting your intellectual property and financial interests, strategies for negotiating and the importance of seeking legal counsel.

Using case studies from our experiences in legal practice, we will highlight both the practical and legal considerations across these aspects. Members of the NZGDC audience will be able to walk away equipped with new information and a stronger sense of confidence on how to approach publishing agreements and related third-party relationships.
