Ok, I admit it, I went to the Gremlin talk in Blackpool knowing I wanted to get some footage to fill a gap in my playguide production schedule. I had caught up with all of my pre-made videos and had to find three weeks worth of stuff to fill the void, and hopefully develop a few more playguides in the meantime. The Gremlin Talk was easy to find but was delayed because a certain Antony Crowther, the Mr Punch of this circus, got lost in Blackpool and took ages to get through the traffic. Ben Daglish; who was also supposed to be there; was too busy with a gig, and to a musician, a gig is always more important than a talk. :) I found a seat near enough to the front get a good angle on everything, and chatted to a fan of my lemon reviews for a while (who recognised my t-shirt), and then started filming when the first video started to roll on the projector.

I was very surprised to see Andrew Morris there, as he was not listed on the bill. Tony arrived just in time to be introduced and everything got started. The host of the talk was Carl Barnett of GamerDads.co.uk. I didn't want to take the big bulky tripod with me, so instead I sat with my knee bent to chest height and used that.

I planned to chop the footage down to 5 or 6 instalments, with the first few on LT64 and the Amiga related stuff on LTA, but I found the Amiga section was not so long and so most of the talk went onto LT64. I had fun trying to make the Gremlin character run over all the titles, and made a green paint streak as the caption backgrounds, using a great gold font. Its still all amateur stuff but it makes it look a bit more special. The colour correction talk ages to get it how I wanted it, and it was a compromise as the roof of the venue had a huge round window; so light was pouring in from above, creating extra gamma and contrast.

The other major issue, and perhaps the largest barrier of them all, was the audio. I started by trying to boost the narrators voice and to keep everything on the same level. This was bearable for the first two parts but by part 3 I got a bit bored with boosting every sentence and concentrated more on the responses. Yes I did try to boost the narration of parts 3 and 4 in places but you wouldn't necessarily notice it. Part 5 (this one) was the hardest, as the microphones would either Buzz wildly or whine, or just cut out to a whisper. I boosted Peter Harrap and parts of the narration by 300% and still it made only a little difference. All I can say is- you now get to hear it better than we did in the audience.
