Jaguar XJ220 is a fast paced behind-car view driving game; with great polished graphics, slick presentation, and a some awesome audio anthems to choose from. Surely this is better than Lotus 2??

Production Notes:
=============
Ripped: 18th May 2014
Edit Started: 24th May 2014
Completed: 30th May 2014
Version: 4 Revision F

My big plan this month was to catch up on 4 reviews. This was the third one I worked on but of course after the delight of 'talking JAG' with Andrew Morris (something I will always treasure) it appeared completely fitting to bump this up as the next playguide video.

The game was ripped in two stages. 1st Rip: England, Egypt, Italy, Greece. I got as far as where you see the boring part at the very end of this video, before quitting, taking a break, and going back to find the snow and other levels. I saved the game before the map screen. This 2nd rip ended with another boring race; on one of the waterfall levels; which gets cut short in the actual review.

The edit took 4.5 days, but one of those was a solid 8 hour stint. I've adopted much of the streamlined editing I created with the LT64 reviews, i.e no fancy screen effects, but a long stage of the editing was the intro rip. I wanted to get the Jag to follow the path of the Lotus' games but the headlights were copy and pasted from a real 220. When the lights are on - these are the real 220 lamps, otherwise it looks like a brown X over the headlamp covers; which was not the effect I wanted at all.

I like to fast forward rather than skip, but here I skipped all the boring parts, of which I considered quite a few. I kept in the confusion over the repairs. The narration went very smoothly, but as I started to add the comparisons to Lotus 2, I noticed they contradicted the vocals slightly, and I had to go back and correct one line; during the comparison with the Lotus desert level I said originally that Jag maintained the smoothness of Lotus 2, which was of course not true.

I didnt want to turn a once fair appraisal into a spoof, although I thought about adding captions: like "Ever heard of UNDERsteer?' etc, but I didnt want to slaughter this game because I did get some enjoyment out of it as a kid, and so I tried to keep it fair(er). I notice I say the trees are better drawn on Jag at one point, but thats no slight on Andrew. Style is not a measure of how well something can be drawn, it is how it all flows together as a package. I also notice I say the player 'cant' sink into the sand and then do just that, but having failed repeatedly to find that line in the video I gave up. (At least its not a belch like Robocod).

The music really helps the end of the review, and without them the show would be very different. In this case I wanted to include the Legacy of the Jag music as much as possible, and replaced all the ingame audio with unfiltered .MP3s from the StoneOakValley archives. These were much less bassy than the music played through UAE, which is unfortunate, but they were clean. Despite having to go back and add the fog level comparison with Lotus 2 the day before release (how could I forget this?) the project seemed to go well.
