A Racing Shoot Em' Up?! Kingdom Grand Prix In-Depth Review! (Shippu Mahou Daisakusen)
A Racing Shoot Em' Up?! Kingdom Grand Prix In-Depth Review! (Shippu Mahou Daisakusen). Raizing, the creator of Battle Garegga, is a classic Shoot Em' Up (shmup) studio and Kingdom Grand Prix remains a really interesting entry in their catalog of games. Grand Prix, as its name suggests, is a hybrid of racing game elements (many of which remind me of Super Mario Kart) and Shoot Em' Up elements very much similar to the Raizing game before it, Sorcerer Striker (Mahou Daisakusen 魔法大作戦) in Japan). The game is actually the 3rd in a trilogy of games, the Mahō Daisakusen trilogy. In today's review I go over the racing mechanics, the scoring system, the level design, the graphics, the sound, the Sega Saturn port, and my overall thoughts on the hybrid nature of the game and why I think the game has gone on to influence the genre, though in ways that probably have been unexpected.
