A Sister's Journey Demo Playthrough
When a metroidvania is in the works that clearly wears some Celeste inspiration on its sleeves, that gets my attention - and has a lot to live up to.
Fortunately (and impressively, given the high bar), the demo manages to do a fairly good job in both the metroidvania and Celeste-like platformer departments - and has enough accessibility options to make the experience bearable by turning off the dash-induced screen shake and weapon-induced flashes.
There are platforming challenges throughout, with instant-death traps with the same kind of quick retry loop as Celeste. There are also boss battles that will give you a run for your money and require learning how to handle patterns. There's plenty of progression to be had in terms of weapon upgrades in addition to movement options.
If I had to nitpick one thing, I really hope the final game will have a more diverse soundtrack - that one song we first heard from the caves that surprisingly continued all the way through the base really overstayed its welcome for how relatively uninteresting it was.
I did encounter a glitch and crash toward the end of the demo that prevented me from definitively finishing it (possibly chalked up to Linux/Proton), but I reckon I managed to experience effectively most if not all of it. This game definitely goes on the wishlist.
