Enigmatic Worlds Demo Playthrough (Steam Next Fest June 2024)
This game originally crossed my radar a few months ago, and had me curious from the perspective of someone who found Corridor 7 interesting. And this is probably the most Corridor-7-like GZDoom-based game you'll find.
Enigmatic Worlds seems to go out of its way to be obtuse as you'd expect of the early 90s FPSes it mimics; for example, Doom normally has a message system, but this seemingly hides that altogether, which means you have no idea what you're picking up until you figure it out yourself. One thing I'll say: those early 90s FPSes came with manuals. Maybe this should come with one too if it's going to pursue the vibe that hard.
I came into this unsure whether I'd be put off by any harsh visuals, but I enjoyed it quite a bit for the most part. I do wish teleporters wouldn't cause full-screen flashes, especially since you can end up walking into one without even realizing it.
One part of the demo level left me completely at a loss for how to progress, but the dev has already stated that they're going to rework it after noticing multiple people have the same problem.
