Chromacell Demo Playthrough (Steam Next Fest June 2024)
Chromacell seems like a potentially decent 90s-inspired shmup, with clear Gate of Thunder vibes in a couple of spots.
I wish the demo had more than 1 level (out of 10); as it is, I can't get much of a feel for environment diversity or difficulty scaling.
The game has 4 difficulties but they don't seem to change much other than effectively player health (and absence of enemy bullets on the lowest).
Speaking of bullets: some bullet types are a little too easy to confuse with debris. One of those things doesn't hurt you, while the other very much does, so that's not the greatest visual design decision.
This is apparently at least the second shmup by 171Dev, the first being the vertically-scrolling Tameshi which typically runs for $6. This seems like it could be reasonable if it were at a similar price point.
