Abadox, Natsume's answer to Konami's life force. I have very mixed feelings with Abadox really, mostly just with the games difficulty.

Plot is that an alien organisim known as Parasitis has devoured the planet Abadox and now seeks to eat more planets. A military force eventually sends a ship to attack only to be destroyed by Parasitis, a hospital ship was destroyed in the process which contained Princes Maria (this is news to me after reading the manual.)

You play as Lieutenant Nazal, the only remaining survivor who then ventures to planet abadox, destroy Parasitis and save princess Maria.

The game is pretty graphic for an NES game, it gives life force a run of it's money really. It all features parts of the body too, the start of the game has you entering it's mouth then you venture further down it's other organs.

The difficult is a mixed bag, you have to stay fully upgraded all the time and YOU CAN'T DIE in this game. Flipside you do have some good arsenal here, similar to konami's gradius really in which you're over powered. The stark difference is that once you lose all your upgrades in Abadox, especially in later stages, you're better of restarting because there's no way to beat any of the levels without being fully powered.

All the stages aren't too bad either, my biggest grudge is that one segment in the final stage where you have to fight off those floating flame spirits things and the not get squished by those two automated wall things, if you get past that part then best pray you got quick fingers to take out the final boss or it's back to the beginning again. The escape segment on the other hand, this is the only segment of the game where you can actually die, plus there's the speed capsules so you have a total of 3 tries or it's game over.

Harsh difficulty aside, the music and graphics are pretty impressive. It's pretty grotesque for an NES game, even more graphic than Life force really since you enter an aliens innards. It even shows the ship that crashed at the very start of the game.

Music is so-so really, definitely has a futuristic vibe but if anything stood out, it's the heartbeat when you face off with the fish like alien in the stomach aka stage 4, it's disturbing which really fits the creepy grotesque environment Abadox presents.

Out of all the NES natsume titles, this is the hardest one of all because it requires you to play perfectly to actually win. Only other thing I have to say is that the famicom version is strangely expensive, could be because of the nudity when you rescue Princess Maria but that's just a theory really.
