Airscape: The Fall of Gravity - Level 18-01 (Zone 18: Iris)

At first glance, Airscape: The Fall of Gravity might seem like just a simple little action platformer (with cute characters, straightforward objectives, and a gameplay twist)... but the further you get into the game, the more it becomes apparent that this isn't just some casual platformer you can easily finish in an hour or two... but some of the levels, especially later in the game, are actually quite challenging!

Level 18-01 is the "reward" you get for rescuing every critter in the game (a total of 153, I think). It's the very last level in the game, and is arguably the most difficult as well.

However, even though 18-01 might look impossibly daunting the first time you see it... once you divide the large tasks into smaller ones, and figure out some safe strategies and patterns for each small task, it's... well actually, even then, it's still a challenging level. ^^; But it won't seem quite as impossible.

So anyway, it took me quite a while (and many many retries!) to figure out the strategies I used in this video. I recorded them mostly for my own benefit (because if I ever forgot how I did a particular section, I'd rather not have to figure it out from scratch again ^^;;)... but also for yours. So if you're stuck on 18-01, or want to see if I'm using different strategies than you, or if you just want to see what the final level of the game is like... here it is, hope you enjoy! =)

Some notes and possible points of interest:

0:01 Part 1: Beginning to 1st checkpoint
0:18 Using the fan to hit these buttons from below is slower than hitting them from above... but because the rocket launchers can't see you here, it's a lot safer! =)
1:00 Moving out of the fan's updraft while you're falling (instead of while you're rising) is a good way to control the timing and location of your landing. If a UFO is in the way (where you want to land), just wait until the timing lines up a bit better. ^^
1:11 These buttons are easier if you start from the right (instead of from the left), because there's that safe spot on the right side.

1:32 Part 2: 1st checkpoint to 2nd checkpoint. And yes, I recorded each of the three parts separately, because I was pretty sure I wouldn't make it through the entire level in one try... and I was right. =)
1:39 You don't have to make a complete circle, and you can just wait at the upper left section of the center, but I found that going around once gives you a little more time to make sure you get all of the buttons, and to position yourself for the jump out of the water.
2:56 You can figure out where the "safe" spot is by looking at the platforms "below" (where you jumped into this pool of water from), or the laser emitter "above"... or just by watching the two mine walls, and staying exactly between them (they move at the same speed, so the "safe" point is always the same distance from both walls).
3:20 If you need to go back and forth, make sure to remember to rotate the screen slightly so that you're always heading into the floor. That'll make the jump out of the water a lot easier.
3:32 Try to time falling into the next pool so that even if you fall further than you intended, you'll end up in a space between mines, instead of hitting a mine and having to start this section entirely over from the checkpoint (which I've definitely done before!).
3:43 You can hit all four buttons without leaving the pool, but I've found it's safer just to handle them one at a time, using the same path each time.

4:45 Part 3: 2nd checkpoint to End.
4:55 You'll see some visual glitches here (some of the buttons to the right are invisible, even though you can still see their glow). I suspect the visual glitches are due to the large number of things the game has to keep track of in 18-01 (quite a lot, compared to most, if not all other levels in the game). ^^;
5:04 Getting all of these in one fall is kind of tricky (you have to dodge at just the right time, but not in a way that moves you too far from the buttons), and I usually end up getting hit by the sniper rifle, or missing some buttons. I got lucky this time, though. =) Normally, though, I have to make a second or third pass to get all of the buttons (by going back to the right, going up the water pool again, and repeating the fall).
5:14 Getting that first button separately allows you to run without pausing, when you make your way to the second platform.
5:24 Some more visual glitches. But as you can see, they're basically harmless. ^^
5:56 Woo! Level complete! =)
