-Individual Level timestamps are below, since I don't expect anybody to sit through a longplay of this Preview Build-
Alfred Chicken was a run of the mill platformer for the Amiga back in the early 90s, and was ported to a bunch of home consoles. In 2000, a remake of the game was released for the Game Boy Color, titled Alfred's Adventure, which was handled by Möbius Entertainment (later known as Rockstar Leeds) and published by SCi Limited, and I believe it was a European exclusive game, unlike the previous versions. Around this time, Möbius set about working on a PlayStation remake under their King Monkey Games division.

I'm not really sure when the development of the PlayStation version was started, but a few timestamps found within the data state 1998 a few times, but they could be unrelated. I think it's safe to say that development was probably started at the same time as the Game Boy version, so that their releases could coincide with each other (Obviously, this didn't happen since the PS version didn't hit shelves until 2002). What I can say is that this specific build is from December of 2001, however the disc itself is labelled January 2002, so I would assume this version of the game is most likely what was going to be given to reviewers at the time, though this is just a guess. As one would expect with a remake, the gameplay is mostly the same, albeit instead of spritework, the game takes on a 3D style, while remaining a 2D platformer. I'm not too sure how much the levels changed compared to the originals, but I do believe it's fairly true to the original design.

What is different to the original set of Alfred games is the music. While the ports of the Amiga version and even the Game Boy version all had the same music, the PlayStation version had completely different music. The final version of the game uses quite a jazzy themed soundtrack, if I remember that right. However in this preview it seems to be a mix of genres and they don't seem to be actual looping tracks. My theory is that the music was just placeholder music from a developer's own works, though one track is a remix of a song from the 90s. I suppose I can post the soundtrack here, you'll find the link below with the timestamps.

I would go into more detail about changes to levels and visuals, but there's too many minor things to list. Placeholder text appears in numerous places, such as the legal screen which appears for a single frame, which says "Sony Computer Entertainment Europe presents: Insert Legal Text Here". Credits are also not implemented. As for aesthetics in the game, the stages have visual style differences, such as platforms or backgrounds being different. I find it interesting that some of the backgrounds were downgraded in terms of looks, going from detailed backdrops to static colours in the final. Sound effects were either later added or changed, notably the balloon pickups changing from a voice clip to a fanfare in the final. The death animation for Alfred is strangely delayed and lacks sound. The final version is corrected, and has the expected chicken sound effect and stock audience "aww/boo" sound effect if I remember that right.

As for the interesting nitty-gritty debug stuff, there's actually not a whole lot, unfortunately. On the first controller, pressing L2 enables noclipping, which works as you'd expect, allowing you to explore the entire stage freely and makes you invulnerable to damage. Connecting a second controller, you can press Triangle to show or hide the co-ordinate ticker at the bottom of the screen, and you can press Circle to skip to the next level. I'm not sure if there's any specific combination commands for menus or other stuff, but I might look into it. As briefly shown at the start, starting a new game gives you a level select screen.

Why did I play through the entire game? I don't know. I got too invested in finishing the game and I'm too lazy to edit it... so here's a longplay that's not too different to the normal game :V
