Bubble and squeak - a traditional British food made with potatoes and cabbages. But this is Bubble and Squeak the video game, an underrated gem of a puzzle platformer that sees you control a boy named Bubble as he attempts to get his rather adorable looking alien friend Squeak through each level.

This game has a surprising amount of depth that is not immediately obvious. The coins dropped by enemies (including flying pigs and Perry the Platypus lookalikes wielding baseball bats) don't just give you bonus points, they can be used to feed gumball machines that yield gumball powerups you can give to Squeak for extra abilities. When Bubble has Squeak at a standstill, Squeak can throw him high with a press of up on the d-pad while Bubble can also kick Squeak up and round ramps by pressing the shoot button.

Fun submarine bonus stages set in lagoons also help sweeten the deal further along with an absolutely amazing soundtrack that is one of my favorites on the Mega Drive (the Lagoon tune in particular being a highlight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBy7-WLOhhg)

Overall, another Mega Drive hidden gem that is a must for any platformer fan.
