Aliens Go Home Run is a game from rising publisher and developer, ANIM•ACE, that combines elements from Breakout, SHMUPs, and...well, a light touch of baseball. The game puts you in the shoes of Sally, a young girl with the potential to get herself a major baseball career. She might be a little TOO good...because she hits a home run so hard, the ball flies into space and crashes into a faraway planet belonging to an alien race, creating a crater in the process. Now, the aliens are taking revenge on Earth, and its up to Sally to save the day!

AGHR is story light, but definitely not lacking in action --- the game starts off easy for the first 5 rounds or so, but consider the first five or ten stages a warm-up. With 70 stages and numerous bosses with different attacks and tactics, you may quickly find yourself biting off more than you can chew, without a fair degree of practice, anyway. AGHR isn't just a decent romp due to lots of action though --- it reminds me of a retro console game, with great music from "+TEK", that really seems inspired by classic music from groups like "Software Creations"...reminds me a lot of Tim Follins' work with such games as "Sky Shark" (NES). That is to be seen as a compliment. The game is simple enough, with a few stand power-ups (Health restoration, bubble shield, multi-ball, beam shot) and stage obstacles and the like (bumpers, blocks that require multiple hits, etc.) that add to the experience. You can also slide to avoid attacks and also attack enemies when necessary. There isn't a lot to remember, but that makes the game easy to pick-up, harder to master. If you find yourself getting bored, you can also create your own stages.

Being in development for about a year and a half, the goal during production was for ANIM•ACE to have a game that realized/paid homage to the gameplay potential of "Touhou 1: Highly Responsive to Prayers". "Ult" handled programming and promotion, "Artisano" handled graphics and characters, and "+TEK" handled sound and testing. The team is small, as a lot of indie teams are, and the game is (currently) $3.99 on Steam. All of those things considered...or even if those things were not known, you have a competent product, at a very reasonable price point. Well worth the money, I'd say. You can find the game at:
