Super Night Riders Game Sample - PC/Indie
19So... Steam's summer sale is in effect till July 5th for anyone who is curious... picked up like 100 games myself, so expect to see a few from time to time, lol.
Super Knight Riders is a decent little indie game from neko.works, a (currently) one person team that makes games inspired by old classics. Their first title, "Super Night Riders", is inspired by Yu Suzuki's classic "Hang-On" franchise (the Arcade iterations) with a few modern bells and whistles to round out the package. Released for PC and Xbox One, the game has a variety of graphics settings including the ability to play the game in "Super" or "Classic" (Blockier) mode, 6 courses spread over 36 stages, 6 music tracks, a brief anime, and some neat little merch associated with it that you can see at:

The game itself looks and feels like a revamped Hang-On game... it's not overly ambitious in anything it does, but that's kinda the point. Play as Alice, the Red Rider, as you try to clear courses before time runs out. My only critiques in that regard is the Late Day / Night / Hanami stages are difficult even on the highest graphic settings with the longest draw distance enabled because you can barely see some of the bikes on the road due to objects or glare and there are no crash animations. The game is still certainly manageable though. While not a critique, if the game does get future updates, adding elements from other versions of the franchise would be nice like crash animations, off-road obstacles, the Original Mode (Sega Genesis / Megadrive Ver.), fancier HUD or course introduction (kinda like Hang-On GP) would be neat to see. For one person and $8 tops on Steam, it's not bad at all.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Hang-On was a motorcycle racer against the clock from the 80s and 90s, where you avoided obstacles and racers while riding across the country. Reaching checkpoints gave you extra time to finish and racing position against opponents wasn't a thing until Hang-On GP. They were definitely games of the time, but it's nice to see a game like this pay its respects. This is a video of the game in action. Enjoy. You can get the game at:
