What’s up everyone! It’s Tim from TimPlaysAGame. Today we received some new information about the upcoming games Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon from a video posted on the Pokemon YouTube channel. First, we learned that some earlier generation Pokemon take different forms in Alola where they become a different type and learn different moves. Exeggutor has a much longer neck, gains the Frisk ability and becomes a Grass and Dragon-type. Vulpix becomes an Ice-type, Ninetales becomes Ice and Fairy-type. They both gain the ability Snow Cloak and can learn Ice-type and Fairy-type moves. These new forms are interesting because it is said when Vulpix are born, their colored white. Sandshrew and Sandslash become Ice and Steel-type, gain the ability Snow Cloak and can learn Ice-type and Steel-type moves. Does anyone else think they should be renamed Snowshrew and Snowslash?
New Pokemon were also revealed. First we have Oricorio, which has four unique styles that affect its type: Baile Style for Fire and Flying-type, Pom-Pom Style Electric and Flying-type, Pa’u Style for Psychic and Flying-type, and Sensu Style for Ghost and Flying-type. These styles are different for each of the four islands in Alola and affect the type of their move, Revelation Dance. Oricorio also has the ability Dancer which copies any attack that has the word “Dance” in it, such as Petal Dance, Teeter Dance, Quiver Dance, and Dragon Dance. Next we have Minior, a Rock and Flying-type with the ability Shield Down. Shield Down gives this Pokemon a high amount of defense until its HP drops below half, at which time it loses this defense and will change into a form better suited for attacking. Minior’s Core also comes in four different colors. Collect them all! Next we have the evolved form of Yungoos, Gumshoos. This Pokemon maintains the Normal-type and abilities of Yungoos and can learn powerful biting moves. Next we have Fomantis and its evolved form, Lurantis. These Pokemon are both Grass-type and have the ability Leaf Guard. Also Lurantis can learn a new Grass-type attack called Solar Blade. Finally, we have the pre-evolved form of Mudsdale, Mudbray, a Ground type Pokemon with the abilities Own Tempo and Stamina.
We also learned that you will be able to ride certain Pokemon in Sun and Moon to travel through certain areas. These rideable Pokemon include Tauros, Mudsdale, Sharpedo, and Charizard. Let’s hope this replaces the mechanic of using HM or Hidden Moves to get through areas.
We also learned about the Island Challenge that seems to be replacing the Gym Challenge from previous games. The Island Challenge is an adventurous rite that involves traveling through each of the four islands. The four trial captains are Mallow who specializes in Grass types, Lana who specializes in Water types, Sophocles who specializes in Electric types, and Kiawe who specializes in Fire types. These challenges are not just battling with Pokemon, but also finding items and completing tests of knowledge. At the end of each trial, you will have to face-off against a powerful Totem Pokemon. This Pokemon is much larger and stronger than ordinary Pokemon and is surrounded in a special aura. Totem Pokemon can also call for help from other, weaker Pokémon. After defeating the Totem Pokemon and finishing the trial, you will be able to fact the Grand Trial. The Grand Trial of each island has you battling against the kahuna of each island, such as Hala of Melemele Island. Only after completing each Grand Trial will you be allowed to move to the next island.
Finally, we learned about a powerful new game mechanic introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon, Z-Moves. Z-Moves are moves of great power that can only be used once per battle. It is said when the Trainer and Pokémon’s wishes resonate with each other, and both release their full power in and explosive force known as a Z-Move. All Pokemon can use Z-Moves in battle. Electric types can use Gigavolt Impact, Grass types can use Bloom Doom, Fire-types can use Inferno Overdrive, and Water-types can learn Hydro Vortex.
The video concluded with a reaffirmation that Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on November 18, 2016. More information about these games can be found on the website (Pokemon.com/SunMoon). That’s all the news we have for now, but stay tuned to TimPlaysAGame for more new information about Pokémon and other Nintendo games. For now, this is Tim from TimPlaysAGame signing off. Good night!
