Katana is at best a side grade to the crovel and it some situations even worse such as vs big zeds and hordes where the Crovels stumble power really shines. It's only real advantage is it weighs 1 less KG, so it's really only a late game item. Heck I even find the crovel better in most cases because it has stumble power. It can stumble trash in one swing and stumble big zeds in 2 to get easy head smashes. for example you can reliable get 5 head smashes in on a scrake before it can even hit you between the melee hit and stumble incaps leaving it with massive head damage.
It really could use a buff. I think trip wire should exaggerate the stats that make it the katana, such as more light attack damage, even faster swing speed.
